The universe is unbelievably big - trillions of stars and even more planets. Soo… there just has to be life out there, right? But where is it? Why don’t we see any aliens? Where are they? And more importantly, what does this tell us about our own fate in this gigantic and scary universe?

I mean... even if we are the only "life" in the Universe, since the building blocks for life have been found in things like asteroids, the potentiality for life is abundant. Like cosmic seeds :) And since we are connected to every single little piece of the Universe, from neutrons to protons to quarks to ... everything, by definition, we're not alone, because we are the Universe... right?

"Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers" _Voltaire The Fermi Paradox is now obsolete in light of the fact we have innumerable confirmed sightings (with video evidence) of objects accelerating and decelerating faster than our understanding of the laws of thermodynamics could allow in our oceans, air and space. If we didn't make them here, they are from somewhere else, QED
Päivä sittenDoesn't Matter
So we're supposed to ignore the hundreds of religions that mention "beings descending from the stars"? I'm not religious but the fact that so many different cultures that had no way of contacting each other developed religions with very similar stories just tells me that we were indeed not only visited, but created/bred by other beings way more evolved than us.
Päivä sittenVary Olla
Argumentum ad populum = logical/deductive fallacy. So no it does not matter if "everyone believes...." if what they claim to be true lacks a credible evidentiary basis to support it. People can and sometimes do convince themselves of all manner of silliness which is rationalized entirely upon mere belief. Moral of the story: the Romans copied much of what the Greeks did before them - adding their own twists of course. Similarly the Aztecs copied things which the Maya did before them as so on. Thus human civilization and thus its various cultures are often like bricks in a wall whereby newer ones build upon what previous ones did. So as a result of interaction with other cultures from trade or war and so on it is not unexpected to see "commonality" between otherwise disparate belief systems. That however does not automatically make them true however = only credible evidence can do that. So you need to take all these ancient claims with a mountain of salt as mankind in antiquity understood little and assumed much resulting as we see in a variety of mythological beliefs which were perpetuated over time until science one by one displaces them for evidence-based conclusions. Something new to think about. p.s. - the peoples of North & South America originally came from Asia where their ancestors in turn would have interacted with others who similarly branched out to Europe and Africa. So man takes his beliefs with him.

Everything is so huge and we’re so small...it breaks my heart that before any sort of space travel becomes slightly normal I’ll be in my 80s...I think it’s best we’re alone for now coz that gives us the chance to make sure once we’re long dead our children will be able to be the class 3 civilization that won’t be dicks and can make life prosper everywhere...if we’re lucky...the problem is everyone now will be dead by the time space travel matters too much so nobody cares...life sucks

There's the chance we could be the first planet with life, or the last planet with life. There could be planets that have life until certain mass events like ice-ages and thermal-ages / warm-ages. Maybe it's an impossibility to travel vast distances in space with resources at hand. There's also the chance that, life that exists on other planets just doesn't care about space, or that the life on other planets is not "intelligent" life, to the extent homo-sapiens are. In honesty- I've never been scared of the fact that life may not exist outside of Earth. If life has existed once, it can and will again, is my thought. No matter what happens to Earth, unless it's entirely destroyed, we've lived through worse... we have survived era's of ice, and era's of molten rock, the sun being blotted out (if the asteroid theory is true) and more. I believe we also have evidence of bacteria living on the moon, and I want to say, one of Neptune's moons had some frozen in the ice. Life will end eventually, maybe now, or tomorrow, a hundred, million, or billion, years, or when the universe collapses. But life exists now, we can (and must) work on fixing the planet for future generations, and that should be our focus.

I think those considerations miss that two important assumptions of the Paradox are just that, assumption. A) We have no evidence that advanced civilizations are what we call Type 2 or Type 3. It isn't just about getting all that energy (it is at least theoretically feasible), but purposing that energy in some way. What would we use so much energy for? Would that be a reasonable decision? What if truly advanced civilizations master energy economy more than energy gathering? Yes, our own civilization had a lot of relevant milestones in the form of how we harness energy in larger amounts, but development in how to purpose this energy is also relevant. More than once through history new energy sources remained unused or were even lost due to lack of a purpose. B) Travel through large expanses of space is still fiction, and we are time and again confirming that there is a limit. It means that we cannot rule out the possibility that it is simply universally impossible to travel or even contact other civilizations, not because we're alone, but because we'll be forever stuck in our close neighborhood. We can barely guess a way to someday be able to travel to the nearest stars. First we should try to figure out a way to get faster-than-light communications without having to set up emitter and receiver as twin devices, so we can listen to something from farther than we went.

One interesting idea I have heard is that the universe is too young to have produced an advanced, space-faring civilization yet (unless they were to develop faster than Humanity). This comes down to heavy elements like gold and uranium, and a lot of the other stuff even our modern technology depends on. These are only produced by dying stars. The idea is that any planets that formed significantly before Earth would not have enough of these heavy elements to produce an advanced civilization. This would mean the possibility that lots of those older habitable may have life, perhaps even intelligent life, but they would not have any advanced technologies we could hope to detect. As for those that formed around when Earth did, the same applies. I doubt we could detect a civilization roughly on par with our own from any significant distance.

Why does everyone think that advanced species must not only be social but also act almost exactly the same way as humans? For them to build spaceships anything like ours they would have to have very similar hands, eyesight and many other things. A different planet with almost identical species would practically be a clone of Earth. Another thing is that humans are perhaps the only species stupid enough to think that going to space achieves anything. In that case other life forms won't come to Earth only to be wiped out by Earth's super advanced bacteria, fungi and viruses which means that they will be kept safe. There are plenty of species and civilisations more advanced than humanity's here on Earth.

So you said it was 90,000,000,000 light years wide, that mean I would like jump of the universe, or is it a sphere, what is life, what am I just cells just atoms in an or dor? Do I have no life, no meaning in THAT SPHERE? What is the person that created me or thing? do I make a difference in this empty expanse that WE call home? Or is there something that also calls or called it there home, maybe I’m just a descendent of another replica of me. Am I an avatar for something else to control? Do I have a choice which what I do? Have I make a difference will it short circuit or “glitch” my controllers device or mind that he is using to control me, then I will see a whole new world nothing like ours? maybe I’m just beginning to think of what I can do, we know .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 of our world or simulation controlled by who? we are the canvas of a creator, who you ask? why is it also that no other species on our planet is able to get smarter and break these barriers but us?
8 päivää sittenVary Olla
Probably because we upon becoming the apex species on Earth sought dominion over other species and the very Earth itself. As we are the first apparently to make it this far on Earth = we tend to crowd all others out. Perhaps if we let ourselves go into extinction some other species will "fill the void" as we once did.

There is no paradox. How much we have searched is equal to you going to the beach with a glass, filling it with water and then looking at it going "Hmm, I guess fish don't exist because my glass doesn't have any" while standing in front of the massive ocean. The search has just begun. People don't understand how massive space is.
