The Past We Can Never Return To - The Anthropocene Reviewed

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

Ohai everybody! Something different today, make sure to watch it to the end! John Green is reading one of his reviews of our modern world, from his Podcast The Anthropocene Reviewed, which you should check out! https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/anthropocene-reviewed I haven't said this often enough publicly, but John and Hank Green, the Vlogbrothers and first generation science Youtubers are the reason Kurzgesagt exists today. In the very literal sense, that when I saw the first episode of Crash Course World History as a student in university I decided to try to do something similar. Doing Kurzgesagt was very hard for the first few years, for a variety of reasons. What made it easier was the kind advice and real world help we got from John and Hank to make this channel work and not burn out. Over the years we became friends – and to me the genuine nature of their work is still inspiring. My team and I try to do the same with Kurzgesagt. To be driven by the values we believe in and not by the outside world. So when John asked me if we maybe would illustrate and animate one of his essays, it was an easy yes. This is the result and we hope you like it. Thank you for watching and reading – Philipp

Sorry but one of my best friend works in the reconstitution of the "fake" cave and explained to me how they used the same techniques (the one that you explained but many others too) to remake the same result of texture square cm by square cm... And the result is stunning ! Even the texture of the rock is recreated in each point... So I'm sorry i speak for my friend but i know it's what she would say... So I'm sorry but saying what you say contributes ridiculing a work from people so passionated and so inspired by the cave that they can work 18h a day to look into the most little detail to recreate the exact cave in order to save the real one for all next generation... And the result is not a shadow from the real one is an exact clone... Voilà

When people ask me why I want to be an anthropologist, I think about cave paintings. I think about how art is present in almost every human society to ever live. I think about how, in Pompeii, there's graffiti on the walls that say "I was here." I think about how we seem to have always told stories to each other. I think about how there are many stories to tell, and sometimes the people of the past need a little help to be heard.

In the late 1800’s same kind of paintings were located in Atapuerca, Cantabria, Spain. Some french “paleonthologists” came to see it but they thought they were absurd contemporary paintings. Then they found more in france and bla bla bla…

You put it on like it's something forever. But the technology exists to separate paintings and everything from human respiration. It would be like keeping a book but conversely, a kind of ermeticamntr protective screens sealed with constant humidity and temperature etc. etc. and special light that. In other words, something similar is already known where it is prohibited to take photos with flash because the light could damage certain works of art and things like that. What I would do is put an aquarium-type acrylic construction or something like that that is distributed throughout the cavern and thus keep the environments of the paintings and that of the people totally separate. Although at the time it was a very creative solution but today and with a little investment, everything is possible.

The hand stencils the Paleolithic people made tens of thousands of years ago the knowledge of this was put into the collection consciousness ether or universal knowledge bank where people like us tens of thousands of years later as kids to adults and so on will pick it up from the ether and be able to or figure out how to learn it and do it as well. I don’t know why but that’s what it is in my opinion and so it seems to be kind of like a hand me down but instead of a genetic level it’s passed down from an energetic level...

Quite interesting Reminds me to how you protect the beauty of a flower by not picking it Also interesting that we have such a big drive on protecting old things. So far, that we completely lock it away and just remember that it exists. Makes me wonder, if far in the future there's a benefit from doing that, or if there's something we can do with it, unlike today

So no one has ever thought that the paintings are hunting records? The animal that got hunted gets painted on the cave wall then everyone involved with the hunt gets thier hand sprayed with red pigment while on the wall next to the painting of the animal they hunted. That way the people that fed the tribe get thier achievements recorded and they also get to walk round camp with red hands so others know who is responsible for them eating

Remember when we were kids and we would write " Diamond Waz here" well what if it was the same people who just traveled and that was like their graffiti signature. What if that's why there are similars one found in different places. Another thought I had this week was too there is so many people on this earth, 8M maybe, and out of all our brains we waste it on celebrity gossip or like slime making. I was thinking though that art I think is part of us, like how caveman made art too. I think we need to make art because it's not a choice but a need like love

Hands a sacred to us humans, after all they are the part of us that allows us to shape the world around us.
