when I was 11 I read a book called "The Man Who Awoke" and since then I have been obsessed by time. I'd like to live much longer than I do now then I bumped it up to 7.777 years but even if you lived forever you would not see everything. You would probably still miss that cute fluffy cat in say Japan..So however much time you have, you will never get to do or see everything..I think Michio Kaku said that the Universe might have been born from somewhere else and maybe we reached a level of ultra technology and so the Universe is a perpetual cycle. It was therefore NOT arbitrary in the slightest. Time was measured differently in the thousands of years before that event, they changed it because they had a compelling reason. Having a reason is also NOT arbitrary. Arguing otherwise only attempts to change the meaning of the word and therefore makes the word meaningless. Marxists have done the same thing with words like "racist" and "infrastructure". If the classical definition of the word doesn't match with the meaning of what you are trying to communicate, then you are using the wrong word and you need to go find another word with a definition that matches the meaning of what you are trying to communicate. Not choosing your words correctly is lazy and nothing more than lying.

@Radifiy Yeah, that's correct. Even as the first person to cause England to populate America, he still doesn't deserve awards. Unfortunately, I doubt there would be any way to prevent disease at that time, since they did not have advanced technology. I suppose if the discovery was put off until modern medicine, then lots more could be saved, however with satellites and other technology, I think America would be discovered without actually going there, and then it wouldn't be too long before people did sail across the ocean.
